Sunrise at Indian CutIndian Bayou on was once home to the Potawatomi. In 1897, the Kalamazoo River was a navigable depth of 4 to 12 feet, except 3.5 miles below New Richmond. The U.S. Engineer's Office reported a split; a shallow branch and a "tortuous" stream through wooded bottom land with bluffs 50 feet and marshland. "Indian Cut" was dredged shortening the River a mile. Here wildlife is still abundant and sunrise a spectacular time to consider the River's diverse "past".

The Sun Sets on "The Denison"The setting sun casts a pink glow on the property known for over fifty years as "The Denison." An Endangered Historic Place, it comprises the last undeveloped, navigable river mouth on Lake Michigan, Indian burial grounds and the ruins of the town of Singapore. Development divides communities challenging the values and priorities of each of us. If developers prevail, it will mark the end of an era. The sun may, indeed... be setting on "The Denison."This image has exceptional detail from Baldhead to the old lighthose and Oval Beach for extreme enlargement.
