You can never get the same image of Lake Michigan twice. Throughout the day, the seasons and the years it's constantly changing.

Kat's Moon I was pulled out of bed before dawn one morning in order to pursue an image of the full moon setting over Lake Michigan. The name of the print gives credit where credit is due.

August on Lake Michigan As an August day draws to an end, a sailboat passes by Oval Beach. Late summer evenings offer their own subtle, but distinctive hues.

Gulls on Lake Michigan On a still summer evening the surface of Lake Michigan barely moved under a 'pancake' sunset. As far as the eye could see gulls dotted the water.

The Frozen Surface of Lake Michigan Throughout the winter sizable mounds of ice and snow accumulate across the surface of the Lake. In the distance, open water sloshes against the ice shelf ready to create new ice formations when the next storm strikes.

Winter's Assault on Lake Michigan The bitter winds of January turn Lake Michigan against itself, as waves bearing frozen balls of ice and slush crash onto the growing ice shelf.

July Sunset, Pier Cove Sometimes the best is after it seems to be over.

January Pre-dawn, Pier Cove As daylight approaches; from between waves already frozen into ice and distant icebergs, steam rises off the frigid, remaining open water into the even colder air .

Frozen Sentinels As another winter storm approaches from the North, the channel markers at the mouth of the Kalamazoo River wear heavy coats of ice. Lake Michigan is buried under frozen waves of ice and snow with no open water within sight.

Wind, Water & Light Rather than tidal activity, waves on Lake Michigan are completely the making of whatever the winds dictate.

Last Days of Summer As the first winds of Autumn signal Summer's end, the stalwart gulls reclaim Oval Beach.

Spring Thaw on Lake Michigan As the cold of winter breaks, the first warm days promise spring is getting close. Lake Michigan starts to give up its icy cover, spinning off a variety of miniature icebergs.

In Search of Spring With the spring melt well underway on Lake Michigan, a small herd of deer venture some distance from the shoreline and onto a ridge of the remaining ice shelf. If it was a drink they were seeking, the only visible water (light blue) was about a quarter mile out, across planes of dark blue glare ice and ridges of broken ice, piled together and dusted with sand.
